North Marion Middle School
Project Green Recycle
Teachers at North Marion Middle School, Lori Warren, Sue Jones, and Mary Iannuccilli, have created a service-learning cross-curriculum project for their students that incorporates elements from the required Florida Sunshine State Standards and the BluePrint 2000 Goals for Gifted students and Self-Contained (SLD) and a recycling program for their school.

As of the first of March 2004 they had already collected 2086 pounds of office and notebook paper, as well as, several tons of newspaper.  They have also included other environmental resource conservation activities such as energy conservation and monitoring.  Below students are doing various projects such as meter reading and making light-switch cover reminders for turning off lights.

At left students design and post light-switch cover reminders to encourage reduction of energy waste.  At right students record information from the school's main electrical meter.  They learned how much electricity their school uses and how much it costs.
