Greenway Elementary
Green Club
Georgiana Carson and Ashley Page have put together the Greenway Elementary School Environmental Club with a grant from the Public Education Foundation "Grants for Great Ideas" (Project Green Machine category).

The club's initial focus is recycling and waste reduction.  They also plan to address energy and water conservation some time during the year.

Above, students collect office paper from classrooms on Friday mornings.  The blue recycle bins are then emptied into the school's recycle dumpster.  At right, students are flattening cardboard boxes to place in the school's cardboard recycle dumpster.  The recycle dumpsters cost much less to maintain than the regular trash dumpsters, thus, the students will be saving their school money while learning about the positive impact their efforts have on preserving earth's resources.
Students learn to read the school's meter and graph energy use.  They learned about renewable and non-renewable energy sources.

Students learn about native plants at a local nursery.
See what they selected for their project.

Mrs. Carson discusses the native plants project with some of her students.
